I'm Back and Happy Holidays

Hey Everyone I’m Back.  I have been very busy with the holidays and haven’t been able to get around to posting anything New.  I also had to put my dog Krypto to sleep.  In the next couple of days I will be putting more painting tutorials up along with some other posts.

Did you guys see the new Dark Angles they are pretty sick looking.  If you guys haven’t seen the pics from WD you should check them out.  I always wanted to do a SM biker army so when I finish my Crons maybe I’ll paint up some Raven Wing.

Painting Tutorial Part 5: The Glowing Effect

Painting Tutorial Part 5: The Glowing Effect

I have never done Glow Effects before this army so it is new to me.  However I am very pleased with the results. I did not add glowing effects to the torso because it over powered the red too much.  So I just stuck with the Eyes and the Guns. Also Steps 1 and 2 are both from the Gauss Tubes, Energy Tubes and the Eyes but Step 3 is only for the Gauss Tubes.

4th Step in Startin a New Army: Painting Your Army

4th Step in Starting a New Army: Painting Your Army

So you got your models, figured out your color scheme, and assembled them so now it’s time to paint them.  There are several things you will need for painting your models.  The first and most obvious is paint I personally prefer citadel paints but there are many other companies that make good paints for models.  You want to make sure you have lots of different colors because nothing is worse than finding out you don’t have the color you need when it comes time to paint.  The next thing you need is Spray Paint for your models undercoat.  You can use your regular paint to undercoat however it will take a lot longer.  The third thing you will need is paint brushes I personally use Model Master Brushes I find that they work the best for me.  I use the #2 and #0 Golden Synthetic Round Brushes I like the synthetic more than Hair brushes which I think they are called.  I like Synthetic brushes better because it holds the tip better and for longer.  You will also need a palette so you can mix and thin your paints.  The last thing you will need is 2 clean cups of water.  These are so you can was your brushes and to thin your paints.

3rd Step in Starting a New Army: Assembling your Models

3rd Step in Starting a New Army: Assembling your Models

After you figure out your color scheme its time to assemble your models. If you are just starting out you will want to remember to get the mold line off your model before you start to paint. There are a couple ways to accomplish this. The tools you will need are emery boards or files, and either a hobby knife or a citadel clean up kit I use all 4 of them. Warning a hobby knife is very sharp it is easy to cut yourself so be careful and that is another reason I like the citadel clean up kit it is a lot safer. I really like the citadel clean up kit because it is easy to cut too deep with a hobby knife however the clean up kit can’t reach some places a hobby knife can. It’s best to start with cutting the mold line out then use the hobby knife for any you can’t get to with the clean up kit and then use the emery boards or files to smooth the surface of the model out. One thing to note is that the emery boards will give you a much smoother surface then the files will. A lot of GW’s newer kits are easy because they have less mold lines but the older kits can take forever if you want to get all the mold lines out. The Necron Warriors fall into this group and take a long time to get all the mold lines out. This is not a step that you need to do, however I highly recommend it because it will be worth it in the end and your models will look a lot better. When it comes to assembly before painting I prefer to leave most of the model apart and paint it in pieces this is. I paint my models in pieces because if you assemble the entire model before you start to paint it is a lot hard to reach some parts of the model and your paint job will not be as detailed. If you paint your models in pieces make sure that you take your time when assembling the model after you finish painting and don’t rush gluing the model together because you can ruin your paint job.

My 1st Immortals Are Finaly Painted

These are the First Models I painted for My new Necron army. It took me a week to figure out this color scheme and I really like it. The only problem is it takes forever to paint them but I think it's worth it. I plan on posting a tutorial soon.  What do you guys think?

2nd Step in Starting a New Army: Picking A Color Scheme

2nd Step in Starting a New Army: Picking A Color Scheme

So you got your models and are ready to build your new army. However before you paint your next master piece there is a step not often talked about and that is choosing your color scheme.  It is very important to pick your color scheme and to take the time to find one you that you really like.  The time you take to pick your color scheme can be the difference between an amazing army that your friends will be jealous of or an alright army that no one looks twice at.

1st Step in Starting: a New Army Getting the Models

1st Step in Starting a New Army: Getting the Models

The first thing for a new army is buying the models.  I got all my new Necrons over Black Friday weekend because of all the sales online.  Some people prefer to buy the models as they go other people like me  buy everything at once.

1st Post About Me

Hey everyone welcome to my first blog.  This blog is about my new Necron army and my experiences building and playing with my new models. I plan on posting articles on list building, effectiveness of different units, tactics, and tutorials. If their is anything else you guys want me post about don't hesitate to ask.

Let me tell you guys a little bit about myself.  I am a 23 year old college student who majors in history and I have been wargaming since I was 10.  I started with WHFB then moved on to 40k and Warmachine.  Now I only play 40k and Warmachine however it has been a year or two since I last played a game.  My 40k armies include Chaos Space Marines, Space Marines, Bugs, Space Wolves, Grey Knights and Tau however I have sold all my armies except Spaces Wolves. I enjoy both playing at the local gaming club and playing in tournaments.  However I have yet to win a tournament but I have won best painted army several times.
